Our Story

Jake and Tetsuko were both born in the Los Angeles area and shared the same interest in sports and music but did not cross paths until their 30’s. Growing up, Jake spent much time on his family farm Yasutomi Farms but pursued different careers until taking over the farm when his father retired. Tetsuko spent 18 years in the fashion industry designing and operating a Junior and Young Contemporary clothing line. When the 2 met they dreamed of someday opening a farm to table restaurant utilizing produce from their farm. They decided to make their dream a reality after Tetsuko retired from the fashion industry. Both wanted to offer affordable Japanese comfort food to the community and opened Neighborhood Bento in August 2019.
When not in the kitchen and farm, both can be found spending time with their children Enzo & Maya. They enjoy being active together and riding bikes on the weekend. Jake has been training Jiujitsu and Enzo has been training Judo. Both Jake and Tetsuko take pride in bringing their community together through quality food, living a healthy lifestyle and giving back.
